The message comes after two pubs, The Golden Fleece and The Cavalier, both in Silksworth, announced their temporary closure after an “irresponsible” customer was confirmed to have coronavirus following a visit to The Cavalier on Friday, July 31.
A third venue, Ryhope Cricket Club, announced to its members on social media on Saturday, August 1 that it was suspending play following a reported case at the club. The club on Ryhope Street decided to stop all cricket activity for 72 hours.

Gillian Gibson is director of public health at Sunderland City Council and a registered public health specialist.
She said: “Coronavirus is still very much with us and as restrictions are eased it is very important to remain vigilant.
“The number of confirmed cases is low, but it is essential that we all play our part to contain the virus and prevent ongoing spread to others. If you have symptoms of coronavirus, you must self-isolate immediately and get tested.
