In an announcement made via its Twitter account on Tuesday, March 17, Academy 360 said it was partially closing the school from Wednesday – but stressed that there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The Pennywell-based school put the closure down to staffing levels, and said: “An increasing number of households are now self-isolating and this has impacted heavily on our staffing and our ability to deliver the curriculum.”
The school will remain open for pupils from Year 5, 6, 10 and 11 with parents reassured that “pupils will follow their normal timetable and continue to receive specialist teaching in school”.
Pupils of year groups who are not to attend from Wednesday have been given access to online learning resources along with work books and revision guides..
The Academy’s statement added: “You can expect daily contact from our team who are working tirelessly to ensure that our young people are well supported at this time.
Parents will also be contacted before Monday, March 23 with any further guidance, the school said.
The decision comes a day after the Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a press conference on Monday, March 16 that schools are to remain open.
Members of the public were instead urged to avoid pubs, theatres and restaurants.
