Covid cases are continuing to rise in Sunderland

16 Sunderland areas where the Covid infection rate is higher than national average

As Sunderland continues to see an increase in cases, we take a look at the areas with the most confirmed cases of Covid-19.

These are the 16 areas in and around Wearside with the highest Covid case rates recorded between Wednesday, December 30 and Tuesday, January 5, according to official figures – which are above England’s national average.

In the seven-day period, 1,521 confirmed cases were confirmed in Sunderland – up from 929 the seven days up to December 29, 2020.

The case rate takes into account the number of people living in each area compared to the number of people who have tested positive for the virus and are measured by 100,000 people.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
