And then there’s the midwives, pharmacists, and unsung heroes. All of you will be honoured in this year’s competition.

In fact, there’s so many sections, it is worth taking a look at the list on the right before deciding which section to enter your own health hero in.

Nominations can come from all sources. Members of the public can nominate. So can health workers - either for themselves or for a worthy colleague.

You could follow in the footsteps of last year’s health heroes who included Pat Bealing, 80, who had spent more than 30 years in the NHS. Pat is a hospital chaplain who leads a small chaplaincy team of two volunteers.

Another winner was Nick Matthews, from Sunderland Royal Hospital, who won the Judges Choice Award after a string of nominations from the public. He not only saved lives - he became lifelong friends with the families he helped.

Now comes this year’s awards which have the support of the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust who are headline sponsors. The category sponsors are East Coast Fitness, Wonderful Wig Company and NHS Sunderland CCG. We thank them all for their superb support.
