The Best of Health Awards have returned and we’re searching for the very best in the health profession, with loads of categories in which winners will be chosen.
So whether you are a GP, a hospital doctor, a nurse or a dentist, there’s a trophy awaiting the winner from the Sunderland and South Tyneside areas.
If you are an optometrist, therapist, or care worker, there’s a category for you too.

And then there’s the midwives, pharmacists, and unsung heroes. All of you will be honoured in this year’s competition.
In fact, there’s so many sections, it is worth taking a look at the list on the right before deciding which section to enter your own health hero in.
Nominations can come from all sources. Members of the public can nominate. So can health workers - either for themselves or for a worthy colleague.
The more the merrier. Let’s make it really hard for the judges by inundating them with top-class submissions.
You could follow in the footsteps of last year’s health heroes who included Pat Bealing, 80, who had spent more than 30 years in the NHS. Pat is a hospital chaplain who leads a small chaplaincy team of two volunteers.
Another winner was Nick Matthews, from Sunderland Royal Hospital, who won the Judges Choice Award after a string of nominations from the public. He not only saved lives - he became lifelong friends with the families he helped.
Now comes this year’s awards which have the support of the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust who are headline sponsors. The category sponsors are East Coast Fitness, Wonderful Wig Company and NHS Sunderland CCG. We thank them all for their superb support.
The deadline for all nominations is Monday, April 6 and the judges will meet on Wednesday, April 8, to decide on the shortlist.
The grand finale is at the Roker Hotel on Thursday, April 30, when we will be announcing this year’s winners.
To nominate, send your name, address and telephone number, as well as your email address, if applicable. Remember to include the category you are putting your nominated cause into.
Also send the name of the person you wish to nominate, as well as their address, telephone number and email (if known).
