Two students in year 7 and 8 at Sunderland School test positive for coronavirus

Pupils at a Ryhope school are self-isolating after two students were confirmed as having Covid-19.

The Venerable Bede Church of England Academy says two students, one in year 7 and another in year 8, have tested positive.

The school remains open though some of their classmates are self-isolating.

A school spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a pupil in year 7 and another in year 8 have been confirmed with the Covid-19 virus.

“As soon as we received the information from the parents we immediately acted in the best interests of the whole school community by isolating everyone that the pupils have come into close contact with.

“The isolated group’s parents have been contacted and they have been asked to self-isolate at home and to get tested if they should have any symptoms. Any pupils self-isolating have lessons set online so that their learning can continue remotely.

“The school remains open and we continue to follow strict social distancing, cleaning and hygiene protocols and advice.”
