A Sunderland secondary school will remain closed to all pupils on Tuesday, March 3 due to heating problems

Thornhill Academy, in Thornholme Road, will remain shut on Tuesday due to a heating failure on the premises.

The school has moved to reassure parents that the only reason the school is closed is due to the heating.

A statement on the school website said: “Firstly can I just reassure all our parents and pupils that the ONLY reason we are closed today (Monday 2nd March) is due to HEATING problems and nothing else.

“Since 8.30am this morning we have had several heating engineers working on our heating system as it failed to activate on Sunday night leaving the building at a chilly 12oC this morning.”

The school will remain closed tomorrow (Tuesday March 3) the school has said to enable the necessary repairs to be made.
