Sunderland school pupils show their support for our amazing NHS in this touching video tribute

With the majority of youngsters at Plain Farm Academy studying at home since the onset of the pandemic last month, the Sunderland primary school has produced a series of videos featuring staff and pupils to raise spirits.

The latest, which was the brainchild of English lead and year two teacher Joanna Owen, was compiled after families were asked to send photographs in of pupils wearing their uniforms while holding messages in support of the NHS.

Dozens responded after children took the time to create a host of colourful mesages featuring rainbows and words of encouragement for health workers.

Mrs Owen thanked everyone for their contributions and added: “We received just over 100 pictures from children from nursery to Year 6. All wearing their Plainsy uniform, standing together but apart.”

Previous videos featured messages from staff revealing what they missed most about the school and the school choir singing Vera Lynn classic We’ll Meet Again after they were each asked to sing individual sections of the song.

The school, which is led by head Lesley Cassidy, is continuing to provide weekday care for the children of key workers at nearby Farringdon Academy.

Others learning at home have each received work packs as well as web links and passwords to allow them to access various online educational activities.

Weekly blogs have also been set up for each year group to share information and work.

Mrs Owen said: “Plains Farm Academy are one big family and during these unprecedented times that has not changed.

“As staff we are incredibly proud to be supported by a fantastic head teacher who has remained positive and focused during these times leading us all to feel happy and keen to continue to support our children in any way we can.

“We love and miss every single child and can’t wait to be all back together again.”

The NHS tribute video on the school’s website features the High School Musical song We’re All In It Together.
