Earlier in May, a planning application was lodged with Sunderland City Council for unit one at Church Street East in the Hendon ward.

The plans came from North East firm Pinnacle Training which specialises in ‘hands on’ vocational training providing an introduction to a wide range of trade professions.

This ranges from bricklaying and floor and wall tiling to plastering, interior painting and carpentry.

According to the planning application, the Church Street East site in Sunderland was previously used as a warehouse and retail unit for the “storage and bulk retail of vegetables and fruit.”

If new plans are approved, the application states the ‘disused warehouse’ would be used as an educational training workshop for the “training of brickwork skills to young people from local schools.”

Floor plans show a main workshop area alongside a kitchen area, an office/seating/rest area and toliet facilities.

The development is also expected to create one full-time and two part-time jobs.

A decision on the application is expected by early July following a period of consultation.
