The report said: "Leaders have developed a community where achievements of all kinds are celebrated and everyone is valued. They have worked exceptionally well with staff to ensure that Ryhope is a school where pupils can thrive.”

Headteacher Fiona Lynn said, “This ‘Outstanding Leadership’ Ofsted judgement is a public endorsement of the hard work, energy, commitment and team spirit of children, teachers, support staff, governors, parents and carers in ‘the family’ that is Ryhope Junior School.

“We are proud that our unwavering focus upon achieving the highest educational outcomes, and thereby increasing life chances, for all the young people we teach and nurture has been so clearly recognised. We feel this report is a positive reflection of where we are as a school. We are incredibly proud that, despite the disruption to normal school life over the past two years, Ofsted saw that Ryhope Junior School is a place where all children are safe and happy and receive an excellent education delivered by high-quality teaching staff."

Chair of Governors Stef Watson said, "I am delighted with the findings of the report. We work closely with our school to ensure that we can give the children the best possible start to their school life.

“Staff at Ryhope Junior School go above and beyond to ensure pupils enjoy their education, having fun when learning. This is testament to the dedication and commitment of the staff and governors to provide the children with the best learning opportunities that they can give them, and to our incredible children who show such enthusiasm for learning and demonstrate such ‘Ryhope Resilience’ when faced with new challenges.”

Ofsted commended the school for its positive relationships between staff and children, stating "Pupils and staff are respectful towards one another. Pupils feel happy and safe because they know staff care for them as individuals.”

The report says the curriculum is ambitious for all pupils and this means that pupils can build on what they already know.

Inspectors spoke to parents who recognised that "staff will go the extra mile to meet their child’s need’.

The school was rated as “good” overall after the full inspection on March 22 and 23 - the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The rating represents a significant improvement in the school’s performance from an overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ following its previous inspection in 2018, under a different Leadership Team.

The school has places available in some year groups to start in September this year. For more information or to enquire about a place contact the school for a chat or visit the website at www.ryhopejuniors.co.uk
