How a Ryhope school is making children and parents smile during the coronavirus lockdown

Ryhope Infant School Academy is trying to keep community spirit high during the coronavirus lockdown by posting a video message to pupils.

The video, which has been titled “keep on dancing”, was posted on the school’s Facebook page features clips of staff dancing in their homes during the lockdown.

Julie Ramsay, 42 from Seaburn Dene is a Year 1 teacher at the school, she said that the aim was to make families and pupils smile.

She said: “We wanted to do something fun during the lockdown. We have been posting pictures of the kids on our Facebook page but we wanted to give back and make them smile.

“All the staff were happy to get involved, Amy Scott who is one of the other teachers edited the video together.”

The video is just one of the ways that the school has been supporting parents since they were ordered to close by the Government.

Julie told the Echo: “Each teacher has rang the children to make sure they are getting any help that they may need.

“There has always been a lovely family feel surrounding the school, I don’t see why we can’t keep that up.”

Julie believes that the video has managed to achieve what it had set out to do.

“It has had loads of shares and positive feedback, it has definitely had the desired effect,” she added.
