Sunderland's GCSE results day in pictures as students collect their grades

It’s GCSE results day – a worrying and exciting time for so many of Sunderland’s young people as they decide on the next steps they wish to take.

On Thursday, August 20 we headed out across the city to meet some of the teenagers collecting their grades after exams were cancelled this summer as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s how the day unfolded in pictures. See if you can spot anyone you know in the photographs.

Anthony Butts, from Sandhill View Academy, got three 8s, one 7, three 6s and a 5 and is off to college to study engineering.

Callum Cuthbertson got six 6s, a 7 and an 8. He said: I am going to go to college and study sport. It will cover the whole topic and go into the medical side.

Kian Ferguson, of Sandhill, said he had done very well, with three 9s, two 8s, a 7 and a 6. He will be studying maths, computer science and graphic design at college.
