A further 20 schools across Sunderland are set to welcome pupils back following the coronavirus lockdown on Monday, June 15.

A further 20 schools across Wearside are set to welcome back pupils on Monday, June 15 as the coronavirus lockdown continues to ease.

It follows 62 schools which have already reopened to pupils in Year 1, Year 6 and early learning.

Councillor Louise Farthing, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “We have asked our schools to make a decision on wider opening based on what is best for their communities, staff and their buildings.

“It has been made clear to parents that there is no compulsion to take up a school place and no penalties for non-attendance will be pursued at this time.”
