14 fab photos as primary school turned into the wild west on family fun day

The event was raising money to support the school

Blackfell Primary School was temporarily turned into the wild west as part of a family fun day at the Washington based school.

Children arrived in an array of cowgirl and cowboy hats and outfits, as well as being able to enjoy a ride on a pony whilst listening to a live performance of country and western music.

Pupils also go the chance to meet with and array of Disney characters thanks to Make it Magical Entertainment. There was also a bouncy castle and slide and field games to enjoy and if you got hungry or thirsty there was a customary ice cream van to help people cool down.

Headteacher Danny Patterson said: “The children have absolutely loved the event and it has given them the opportunity to try things such as the pony rides, which they wouldn’t normally get the chance to do.

“The main purpose of today is to get the community involved and to help to instil a sense of pride in the children about being from Blackfell.”

The event was organised by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

PTA member Lauren Walker, 31, said: “The event started as community picnic and has just grown every year. We had already decided to bring in a pony and so the country and western theme grew from there.

“All the children have brought family members along and it’s just a fantastic event to bring the community together.”

The event certainly proved to be a hit with the children.

Year 2 pupil Emily Walker, 7, said: “I’ve enjoyed getting dressed up as a cow girl as well as the pony ride and meeting the princess.”

Classmate Emily Einon, 7, added: “I really felt like a cow girl on the pony ride and today has been a lot of fun.”

Lottie Barnfather, 6, said: “I won a prize on the hook a plastic duck and I really enjoyed my ice lolly.”

The event also offered the chance to win prizes in the school raffle, whilst Year 6 pupils also had their own enterprise stalls, selling items to raise money for the PTA to support the school.

Mr Patterson said: “The money the PTA has raised is going towards a Christmas pantomime trip for the children as well as helping to develop the school library.”
