11 fantastic photographs of Sunderland children enjoying a fun-filled day at Thompson Park

Children have been getting their summer holidays off to an action packed start with a family fun day at Thompson Park in Southwick.

A key focus of the event was the launch of the brand-new Places to Ride facility which provides a training hub for both adults and children to enjoy getting out on their bikes while developing their cycling proficiency and safety awareness.

The facility, which was funded by British Cycling and Sunderland City Council’s North Area Committee, features a training track including junctions, pedestrian crossing and roundabouts.

Children and families could also take part in a whole host of activities provided by Active Sunderland including archery, circuit training, tug-of-war, swing-ball and giant Connect 4 as well as workshops promoting healthy lifestyles.

The family fun day was part of the City Council’s Swim, Bike, Run initiative to help people to keep active and promote healthy lifestyles.
