'We're delighted to see the rewards of everyone's efforts': North East firm sees turnover hit £170m
A Durham-headquartered contractor has reported turnover of more than £170m, with profits also jumping, in a year where the company continued to implement a targeted capital investment programme.
In the year ended 31 March 2025, MGL Group generated turnover of £171.3m, up from £169.9m. Operating profit also climbed from £20.9m to £27m. During the year the business expanded and modernised its plant with new equipment including its first 36-tonne hybrid machine.
Elsewhere, Tynedale Roadstone, MGL Group's asphalt production and quarrying business, strengthened its operations through the acquisition of Glenfin and Fulfordlees quarries in the Scottish Borders, significantly boosting its supply of high PSV stone, sand, and gravel.

Furthermore, planning consent for the construction of a new asphalt plant located at Allerton Waste Recovery Park, near Knaresborough, was approved. Moving forward, the business intends to continue investing in sustainable technologies while expanding its headquarters.
Joint chief executive Mark Davison said: "We're delighted to see the rewards of everyone's efforts during this period reflected in such encouraging financial performance.
"These figures underline that our strategic approach to growth is paying dividends for the group. Since 1971, we have been driven by core values, strong client relationships and operational excellence. With the talent and dedication of over 500 employees, we remain committed to delivering essential services that reshape the built environment and create a lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve."
