Nicola Bond from Biddick came up with the idea of writing a list of personal qualities as a way to cheer up family and friends in difficult times.

The idea is simple people share their loved ones’ main characteristics and quirks, everything that makes them unique, which are then printed on decorative paper then put in a frame.

When people are unable to meet up as normal, Nicola feels that such a personal, heartfelt gift can be uplifting and even beneficial for mental health.

At first she gave them as gifts to those closest to her, which went down very well and made some family and friends quite emotional. But in February she turned her idea of spreading love, kindness and positivity into a business called Uniquely You Gifts.

Customers first answer a few brief questions about their loved one, which becomes a list of personal qualities that is both sentimental and humorous.

Orders have come from all round the North East, as well as from Devon and Hull.

Nicola said: “It’s even better if details about someone come from a number of different family and friends, which gives me a more thorough and broader number of options to work with, as I always strive to create a really personal description that people can relate to.

“The list is presented on the paper of your choice and there are plenty of options for frames too. Every list is completely bespoke and perfected for the person receiving it.

“It’s going really well. It started off with positive messages to friends and it’s snowballed into other areas. It can help with mental health issues, but I work it out so they can fit anyone. You can send them for any reason.”

Nicola has created lists for children as well as adults. Since February she has taken orders for birthdays, weddings, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and lists in memory of lost loved ones, or to support those who are struggling. Orders can be made through her website.

She added: “I am honoured to make these gifts and be a part of showing someone they are perfect just the way they are.”
