After being made redundant from his job at Npower, Ben Candler decided to pursue his passion for starting up his own business and has recently launched drinks delivery service Can Deliver.

People can order a range of drinks and snacks online including a selection of lagers, beers, kegs of ale, spirits, liqueurs, cocktails, shots and soft drinks, as well as crisps, popcorn, nuts – and even pot noodles.

Can Deliver, a play on Ben’s surname, aims to deliver to people within the hour and hopes to fill a gap in the market in Lockdown, and also when garden parties and house parties can resume.

Ben said: "I knew I was being made redundant so I used that time to build something up. I saw a gap in the market in Sunderland.

“Other big cities have drinks delivery services but Sunderland doesn’t have one. You can get stuff from a couple of garages on Just Eat, Uber Eats and from the Co-op on Deliveroo, as well as a bottle of wine with a food delivery or drinks delivery from pubs, but there wasn’t a dedicated drinks delivery service.”

He added: “With people being at home more it’s definitely a service which is in demand, and with people being able to have friends in their gardens soon it means they can order drink if they run out, without having to get a taxi to the shop.”

Ben says the main difference with his service is that he delivers drink without the commission of the national delivery apps.

He said: “Some apps are charging £8 for four cans of beer delivered from a garage and people will pay it because they don’t want to go out. “A lot of the apps charge extortionate prices due to their commissions, but I wanted to bring a friendly, professional, reliable and responsible delivery service to Sunderland, for the same price as your local shop.

"I’m still getting the name of the business out there, but the feedback so far has been great, people are really grateful when you turn up with their order. They say we’re a god send.”

Can Deliver delivers to SR1-SR7, as well as to Houghton and Washington. Order online at https://candeliver.me/
