What a day it will be on Sunday, March 14 when the Black Cats march out on to the Wembley pitch for the Papa John’s Trophy final against Tranmere.
And the big match falls on the same day as Mother’s Day which has not gone unnoticed by Wearside business Mackem Cards.

It has made Mother’s Day cards with two alternative messages to cover those who can’t be with their mums and others who have mothers in their family bubble during lockdown.
One says;
I’m sorry I can’t be with you,
Boris has had his say,

But even if lockdown was over,
I’d be on Wembley Way!
An alternative version says;
Last year we had to stay safe,

Two years ago I was on Wembley Way,
This year we can watch the lads together,
To celebrate Mother’s Day.
The cards cost £3 with 10% from every sale going to Veterans In Crisis which is a cause which helps Forces veterans.

The firm’s social media manager Mal Robinson said the company first did Mother’s Day cards in 2019 for the Checkatrade Trophy final with Portsmouth.

As well as cards, the company also does face masks.
Coverings such as Sunderland Til I Die, Niall Quinn’s Disco Mask, and Kevin Ball Hard As Nails are all available at £10 each (as well as masks in the style of Sunderland strips).
Mackem Cards, which operates online and has its own website, was formed last March and is linked to a Facebook engagement project called Wear The People. As a one-off project, they launched a card on Sunderland being in the Checkatrade Trophy final.
It did really well and led to other products such as lockdown birthday cards which say ‘Stay Alert, Control The Virus, Save Lives, Eat Pink Slices.”
