Sunderland pub The Chesters 'getting ready' to reopen
‘We are excited to announce that The Chesters is moving forward under new management.’
Sunderland pub The Chesters is to reopen although no date has yet been given, according to the bar’s social media.
The Chester Road pub’s new “official Facebook page” says a new management team is in place.
The temporary closure of The Chesters began on September 23 with an old Facebook page saying it would be “temporarily closed following action taken by Stonegate”.
Stonegate’s website says it is “the largest pub company in the UK”.
Metal hoarding was put over the main entrance and it remains closed for now. Events scheduled to take place there have been rearranged and refunds given.
The pub had previously stated it was involved in “an ongoing dispute regarding the lease”, adding that “the matter is now being handled by our barristers”.
But that was on a Facebook page with no messages posted since October 7.
The new page states: “We are excited to announce that The Chesters is moving forward under new management.
“We’re currently busy getting everything ready behind the scenes to reopen your favourite local bar and venue.
“You can expect all the live sports on our 20+ HD screens, proper real ales, a great beer garden vibe, great food and a welcoming, family and dog-friendly atmosphere.

“This is now the only official Facebook page for venue updates, fixtures and opening announcements.
Asked for an opening date, they responded: “As soon as everything is sorted, we want to make sure we have everything in place to offer the best experience possible.”
Another comment from the pub was: “Stonegate has granted the lease to a new company.”
The Echo has so far been unable to speak directly with representatives of The Chesters.
