Sunderland man wins award after 32 years in decorating business

Gary Marsh, 48, from South Hylton, received the title of “On The Tools Painter & Decorator of the Year” 2019 at the On The Tools award ceremony on Friday, November 15, at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham.

The Sunderland-based Dulux Select Decorator and owner of Gary Marsh Quality Decorators was the winner of one of 26 awards recognising individual tradespeople from across the UK.

Gary has been a decorator in the North East for 32 years and has been self-employed for 23 of those.

He told the Echo: “It meant a lot to me. It is great to be recognised like this because there aren’t many awards and chances like this around. It was amazing to have that support from the public and my customers.

“There seemed to be people from all around the country at the awards and I might have been the only one from the North East. It was nice for a North East lad like me to win something like this.

“This will boost my business and hopefully it will bring in more work for my future, especially with the way things are these days with the competition and demand.”
