Sunderland business B&S Group announces plans to expand storage space
A business providing pharmaceutical products to hospitals, surgeries and pharmacies across the region has submitted plans to boost its storage space.
The application to Sunderland City Council’s planning department is seeking permission for a single-storey warehouse extension to unit one in Dubmire Industrial Estate, Houghton-le-Spring.
The plans aim to provide extra internal storage, sorting and loading space for business B&S Group, which is involved in the distribution of pharmaceutical products.
Those behind the scheme added plans would allow operations to be more scheduled and efficient and would “support business efficiency and service provision to hospitals, surgeries and pharmacies”.

The planning statement goes on: “The extension would be used as an extension to the existing storage and sortation area.
“It would provide additional room to hold stock on racking, improve the layout of the operation and allow the business to introduce an automated picking system similar to its London operation.
“The purpose of the proposal is to support the continued operation of the existing business, improve efficiency, increase internal storage capacity, provide improved weather protection and streamline loading and distribution arrangements.”
Planning documents confirmed that the proposed development would not change or increase the hours of operation.
Applicants said the proposed extension would reduce external disruption with deliveries loaded directly into the warehouse rather than through the open yard area.
A decision on the plan is expected following a consultation.
