Employees at The Wheel Company would normally use safety wear, including protective suits and gloves, on a daily basis to protect themselves as they re-manufacture the wheels.

However, due to the closure of the business in line with the guidelines set down by the Government, the company has recognised that their supplies of protective clothing could be used by NHS staff who are desperate for PPE.

The protective suits and gloves have been collected from the company by a local community group, Covid 19 Community Support (CNCS NE), to be distributed safely among NHS workers and other frontline staff in the area.

Tom Todd, operations director of The Wheel Company, is more than happy to put the equipment to good use.

He said: “We are extremely proud of the work our NHS and frontline staff are doing in these unprecedented times, and are delighted to be able to donate our supplies of PPE as a contribution of our appreciation.

”We hope that this small gesture can go a long way in supporting the NHS and frontline workers within the North East region.”

Jolene Casey and Karen Seafield are the founders of CNCS NE.

In a joint statement they said: “We were very grateful to receive the donation of the PPE from The Wheel Company, which will be in great demand and donated to our local NHS and Front-Line staff who desperately need this.

“Our full team are working tirelessly around the clock to help our community in the North East and have set up a GoFundMe page to continue to help people in the local area and have received an overwhelming response.”
