Started by Kevan Turnbull in February 1982, the business which is based in Barnes, Sunderland, has been listed as one of Three Best Rated’s plumbing companies in the city as it celebrates its milestone anniversary.

Kevan began operating as a plumber in the early 1980s and since then has become a heating engineer, growing the business which now offers all forms of domestic plumbing and heating work from stop tap repairs to full bathroom renovations and heating installations.

The reputation of the business and its skilled employees has grown so much through the decades that the company has become Worcester Bosch Accredited and Baxi Accredited, has maintained Gas Safe registration and has this month been listed on the Three Best Rated website as one of the top three plumbing companies in Sunderland.

Originally a one-man band when he started 40 years ago, Kevan, aged 62 and from Barnes, now employs seven members of staff including Neil Gates, from Moorside, who was taken on as an apprentice and has now worked for the company for 33 years.

Kevan’s daughter Monica Trimble, aged 32 and from Fulwell, joined the company six years ago and launched a new side to the business with her father. K&M Service Plan offers home owners monthly cover for their central heating and plumbing, and now has almost 200 customers.

Last year, she also took joint ownership of Modec Servicing with her mother Diane Turnbull, expanding the boiler servicing side of the business and taking on hundreds more customers.

As the family-run company enters its fifth decade Monica said the hope is to keep providing the best quality work to old and new customers.

Monica said: “My dad started the business because he is passionate about the work he does. He is still as skilled and hardworking all of these years later and that enthusiasm and dedication to the job rubs off on all of us who work with him.

“We hope that we can keep providing brilliant plumbing and heating work to our customers for many years to come. We have been serving some of our customers for 40 years, while others became new customers when we bought Modec last year.

“We are so proud of my dad Kevan and the reputation which the business has built over the years. And we are very grateful to our customers who we would like to thank for their continued business.”
