Customers have both welcomed and criticised plans which could see two new drive-through fast food restaurants open in Sunderland.

Proposals to develop Salterfen Industrial Estate, Ryhope, into a leisure complex will be put to planning bosses in the city next week.

If approved, new Burger King and KFC drive-throughs would open on the site, with three other units also available as part of the development.

While some punters welcomed the potential addition of new Burger King and KFC branches, others expressed concerns about the impact the businesses would have on traffic and littering in the area, if they were to open.

Some readers also called for healthier options – adding that more fast food outlets were “the last thing that is needed” in Sunderland.

The plans have been entered by developer Alisa3 Developments Ltd.
