Here's a roundup of the new hospitality venues expected to open their doors in 2024.
5. Manjaros
No exact details on this one yet, but at the end of last year Manjaros created a Manajaros Sunderland Instagram page. Already established in Newcastle and Middlesbrough, the restaurant specialises in a fusion of African and Caribbean cuisine.
6. The Botanist, Keel Square
The first new bar and restaurant to open in 2024 will be The Botanist in Keel Square. It opens for walk ins from January 30, with bookings open now to book from February 5. The venue will be serving food and drinks seven days a week, from brunch and lunch through to evening meals and Sunday lunch.
7. The Muddler, Keel Square
No exact date announced yet for The Muddler, but it will open in Keel Square in the corner unit beneath The Holiday Inn in 2024. Owned by Danieli Group, who also own STACK, it will offer pan-Asian food, cocktails and more. It will be a sister site to The Muddler in Grey Street, Newcastle. It's also expected that a bar will be announced for the fourth unit beneath the hotel soon.
8. Elephant Rock, Roker
Work is underway on the transformation of the old shelter in Marine Walk, Roker. The Victorian shelter is being turned into a new beachfront bar called Elephant Rock, so called after the rock formation which once divided Roker from Seaburn. From the same team behind Vaux Brewery, it's set to open in time for the summer.
