McDonald's reopens more than 20 drive-thrus across North East TODAY - this is where they are

The fast food giant announced last week that it planned to reopen more than 1,000 branches nationwide for collection and/delivery after successful pilot schemes.

The firm reopened five North East outlets yesterday – one at the Metrocentre and four in County Durham – prompting huge queues.

And on Wednesday, McDonald’s announced a further 24 sites would open, from Berwick to Teesside, including Hartlepool, South Shields, Dalton Park, Peterleee, and Alnwick and Ashington.

The firm says it has introduced a number of changes including social distancing has been introduced in the kitchens and service areas, perspex screens at drive-thru windows and employees wearing protective equipment, as well as Perspex screens and floor markings in specific areas in the restaurant and kitchen.

All employees are being asked to confirm they are fit and able to work and contactless thermometers will be used to take their temperatures on arrival at work for every shift.

Deliveries will be contactless for both staff and customers and restaurants are running return with smaller teams, offering a limited menu and operating reduced hours.
