Extra flights from Newcastle to Amsterdam as demand increases
A Dutch airline is offering three flights a day from Newcastle International Airport to Amsterdam.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines resumed it’s daily service from the North East to Amsterdam on June 1, 2020.
But since Monday, August 3, the airline offers three flights a day giving passengers more choice and enhanced connection opportunities via Amsterdam Schiphol – where UK passengers can then fly onto 165 destinations worldwide.
Benedicte Duval, General Manager for Air France KLM in the UK & Ireland said: “Our decision to increase the frequency on our Newcastle to Amsterdam service to three flights per day for August is a positive sign of recovery, after what has been, and still is, a challenging time for our industry.
"As travel restrictions across the UK begin to ease, we are increasing capacity in line with consumer demand."
Leon McQuaid, Head of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport, added: "Our recently introduced Ten Point Plan ensures the terminal is a safe environment for all and along with KLM's additional safety measures on board their aircraft, we hope this will help to provide confidence to passengers looking to travel with us in the future.”
What safety measures are in place?
KLM has introduced a range of measures to ensure that flights are safe for both passengers and staff. Face masks are mandatory for both passengers and crew when boarding and during the flight.
New aircraft cleaning procedures have been introduced including the disinfection of all surfaces in contact with customers such as armrests, tables and screens.
The air in the cabin is renewed every 3 minutes. The air recycling system on board KLM aircraft is equipped with "High Efficiency Particulate Air" or HEPA filters, identical to those used in hospital operating theatres.
These filters extract more than 99.99% of the smallest viruses, including those no larger than 0.01 micrometres.
What if I want to change my flights?
KLM is currently offering customers the opportunity to book with confidence. Customers wanting to make a new booking, but feeling uncertain due to the current Covid-19 situation, have the flexibility to change their reservation and rebook flights in the same booking class at no extra charge.
