'Embrace the change' - What Echo readers said about Sunderland's new seafront hotel

Sunderland families have both applauded and criticised the design of a new hotel as work begins on the seafront at Seaburn.

The four-storey Seaburn Inn, which is due to open near to the area’s STACK development towards the end of this year, will feature 40 bedrooms, bar and dining facilities and a children's play area.

As work gets underway at the site, Echo readers reacted to an artist’s impression of how the building may look once complete, and shared their views on what else they would like to see at Seaburn.

Many welcomed the investment in the seafront area, arguing that it was “about time” there was a new addition to the landscape there.

But others slammed the “square” and “boring” design. adding that Seaburn needed more attractions to bring custom to the hotel and benefit the area.

The Inn Collection Group and contractor Metnor cut the first patch of turf at the site as part of a ceremony attended by Sunderland City Council leader Graeme MIller.

Paul Bestford: “At first l though they were building student accommodation on the seafront. That's what it looks like. The thing is though. If it's right next to them storage cabins, the stack, that will make it look amazing.”
