Elton John at the Stadium of Light 2022 - date, tickets and set list
Rocket Man Elton John looks set to soar at the Stadium of Light next summer after the club tweeted his logo last night.
It was revealed earlier this month that gigs were returning to the home of the Black Cats next summer, and on June 21 the Stadium’s twitter account tweeted a date and a picture of the Elton John logo on the pitch as a teaser.
Here’s everything we know about the gig so far:
The stadium Twitter account has already tweeted the date as Sunday, June 19, 2022, which is Father’s Day – so tickets are an ideal gift for dads.
How do we know it’s Elton John?
Although the club has not mentioned Elton John in any official statements, Sir Elton’s logo is an E and a star which was superimposed on an image of the pitch tweeted by the @StadiumOfLight account.
When will it be officially confirmed
Elton John’s social media accounts say he will make an announcement on June 23, 2021 which suggests this is when the club will make an official statement and announce ticket details, which are usually a mix of standing, seated and hospitality packages.
What music will he perform
The tour is his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour which began in September 2018 and proved popular with fans, before it was halted due to the pandemic. Set to be the 74-year-old’s final ever tour, it takes fans on a journey through his 50-year career.
Setlists on previous dates on the tour have included Bennie And The Jets, I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Candle In The Wind, I’m Still Standing, Crocodile Rock, Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting), Your Song, The Bitch is Back and, of course, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Is he the only gig at the Stadium of Light in 2022?
It’s believed that talks are ongoing with a number of promoters, so there may be another announcement. In previous years the club have staged up to three gigs in the window between the football seasons.
