Which Sunderland seafront bars in Roker and Seaburn will reopen on Saturday July 4

On June 23 the Prime Minister announced that pubs and restaurants can reopen and the two-metre social distancing rule can be reduced to one metre.

Of the 12 bars on our list, a definite four are to remain cautious by staying closed for this weekend at least.

The other eight will use a variety of precautions including PPE, screens, one-way systems, table service, ordering through apps, taking details for track and trace, card only, limiting customer numbers and hand sanitising stations. Measures vary from pub to pub.

Customers are strongly advised to check for details on the bars they intend to visit before setting off.

The list is as follows.

Bar 88: Whitburn Road. Opens at 12pm on Saturday.

The Blue Bell: Fulwell Road. Open 12pm-10pm. Order at the bar, but customers must sit at tables. Maximum six per table and customers are encouraged to download and the MyPUB app to order.

The Cliff: Mere Knolls Road: Closed until Wednesday, July 8.

The Grange: Newcastle Road. Open 12pm-10pm. Booking is advised through the pub’s website. Inside drinking only. Customers must be seated and give details.

Grannie Annie’s: Marine Walk. Closed. No opening date yet set.

Harbour View: Benedict Road. Open 11am-11pm. Bar service, but customers must sit at tables and register with their name and phone number.

The New Derby: Roker Baths Road. Closed. No date yet given for reopening.

Poetic License: Roker Terrace. Open. No further details yet.

The Promenade: Queen’s Parade. Open 9am-12am. Table service only inside. Maximum six per table.

Queen Victoria Hotel: Harbour View Road. Opens 10am. Table service with a maximum six per table and customers must register with their name and phone number.

The Royal Marine: Sea Road. Closed. No reopening date yet set.

The Wolsey: Dame Dorothy Street. Possibly open. Their latest Facebook message says: “We are working very hard to try and get the pub open from Saturday 4th July.”
