As the travel industry continues to take off, Newcastle Airport has issued a video guide for passengers to show what to expect when they start their journey abroad for the first time in months.

The two-minute video goes through the North East airport’s 10 point plan to ensure the safety of staff and passengers.

Passengers are reminded not to travel to the airport should they or anyone in their household be displaying any symptoms of Covid-19.

So what will be different at the airport:

Do I have to wear a mask?

All passengers, who are over the age of 11 and don’t have a medical exemption, must wear a mask at all times when in the terminal building. Passengers are urged to bring their own but there will be masks available in the terminal if needed.

What new measures are in place?

There are more than 100 hand sanitising stations located around the airport.

Social distancing should be adhered to where ever possible with two metre markers in place in the terminal.

Perspex screens and PPE have been provided to protect staff and passengers.

Enhanced cleaning regimes are in place throughout the terminal with increased disinfecting of regular touch points such as hand rails and buttons. Passengers are reminded of the importance of regular hand hygiene, hand sanitiser is available throughout the terminal for passengers to use.

Can I pick up or drop off passengers?

Yes, however only passengers travelling are permitted in the terminal.

Anyone wishing to collect or drop off passengers are requested to park in the Express or Short Stay 1 car park and stay in their cars.

Are the car parks still open?

Yes, Short Stay 1, Short Stay 2, Long stay, Premium Fast Track and the Express Drop Off car parks are open.

In order to limit the number of touch points for customers, initially our Premium Meet & Greet car park will not be open.

Can I take hand sanitiser through airport security?

Yes, as long as it is under 100ml. If carried in hand luggage, it should be packed into a sealed, clear plastic bag (maximum 1litre capacity) which must be placed in the tray at security.
