Sunderland city centre bar The Terrace closes for deep clean after customer tests positive for coronavirus

A city centre bar has become the latest Sunderland venue to close for deep cleaning after a customer tested positive for coronavirus.

The Terrace in Green Terrace announced on its Facebook page this evening that it would be closed tomorrow, Thursday, September 3.

It comes after The Cavalier and The Golden Fleece in Silksworth and Ryhope Cricket Club announced temporary closures last month after a customer with Covid-19 visited all three.

Announcing tomorrow’s closure, The Terrace posted: “We have been made aware that someone has tested positive for Covid-19 who has recently visited out bar.

"We have not yet been contacted by the NHS, but we have taken it upon ourselves to close.

"The customer attended on Sunday from 8-11pm.

"We will be closed from now until Friday at 12noon.

"We will be deep cleaning all day tomorrow.

The Terrace reopened at the beginning of July, with a number of social distancing measures in place to minimise the risk of infection.

Eric Le Menn, 23, one of the managers, described the first weekend as a ‘well-oiled machine’.

He said: “It wasn’t too bad, the table service went really went and because of the shape of the venue, it is easier for us to have a one-way system in place.

“There was a positive reaction from staff and customers, it just went off like a well-oiled machine.”
