A Sunderland fanzine is now selling Stay Safe Stay SAFC masks to help protect fans during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

A Love Supreme is now selling black face masks during this ‘new and strange age of social distancing and staying safe from the virus’.

The masks, which cost £5 and can be ordered online from the ALS website, are reusable and machine washable.

The decision to make the masks, adding the ‘Stay Safe, Stay SAFC’ logo, is about trying to encourage people to wear face masks while making them more fashionable and sustainable than single-use masks, the ALS team say.

ALS has had a great response to their new product they added.

Government advice says the public should consider wearing face coverings in enclosed public spaces such as shops, trains and buses to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Sunderland’s Director of Public Health, Gillian Gibson said: “The Government has advised that people should wear a face-covering in enclosed crowded areas, such as on public transport or in some shops, where they may come into contact with others they do not normally meet.

“Face coverings are not the same as surgical masks or respirators, which should be reserved for healthcare workers who are giving care to patients and those exposed to dust hazards in their work setting.

“Rather, they are a cloth material – such as a scarf or bandana - that covers your mouth and nose while allowing you to breathe comfortably.”
