Newcastle Airport ‘awaiting government guidelines on screening’ as Ryanair looks to resume flights

Newcastle Airport has revealed that they are “awaiting government guidelines on screening” ahead of flights resuming.

Earlier this week, budget airline Ryanair announced they were aiming to get around 40% of their flights up and running as of July 1.

Boss Michael O’Leary said that temperature checks would be taken at the airport before anyone is allowed to fly and personal protective equipment (PPE) would have to be worn for the duration of the flight.

A spokesperson for Newcastle Airport said: “We are pleased that airlines are planning for the restart of services.

“We are in constant dialogue with our airlines, business partners and the government to ensure that we are aligned and can provide a safe environment for our staff and passengers.

“We await government guidelines on screening but will ensure that they are included in our robust plans, which will be published before passenger flights at the airport resume.”

Last month, it was revealed that flights out of Newcastle Airport had fallen by 98.02%.

On Monday, May 11 it was confirmed that those entering the UK will be forced to quarantine for 14-days – with many European countries also implementing the same rule.

Yesterday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that it would be very likely that “summer will be cancelled” for those hoping to holiday abroad.
