How Super Saturday unfolded in the North East as region’s bars, hairdressers, pubs and restaurants reopened

It’s Saturday, July 4 and the North East’s hospitality industry reopened for the first time since coronavirus lockdown restrictions were imposed in March.

Our reporters were out and about across Sunderland, South Tyneside, Hartlepool and Northumberland as bars, pubs and restaurants welcomed punters back for the first time in more than three months. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this latest easing of lockdown restrictions last month, along with a change to the previous two-metre social distancing rule which changes to ‘one-metre plus’ from today.
