The airline has announced that it will be closing its base at Newcastle Airport as part of job cuts after the Covid-19 pandemic leaves the travel industry severely damaged.
It is unclear at this time how jobs in the North East will be affected – the company has also closed its Stansted and Southend bases.

Bosses at the Airport have expressed their disappointment at the decision and offer their sympathies to the staff who have been affected.
A spokesperson said: “Newcastle Airport has a strong and long standing relationship with Easyjet and we are saddened to hear of possible job losses and the significant impact this would cause.
“This is very disappointing for the Airport, airline and the North East as a whole and we sympathise with everyone affected by this announcement.

“We welcome the easing of quarantine restrictions but once again ask the Government for 12 months Business Rates relief for airports in England and Wales.”
Easyjet’s chief exexcutive claims that these job cuts will protect the “long-term health” of the company.
He said: "These are very difficult proposals to put forward in what is an unprecedented and difficult time for the airline and the industry as a whole.

"Unfortunately the lower demand environment means we need fewer aircraft and have less opportunity for work for our people.”
The decision comes a month after Easyjet announced that it would be reducing its workforce by up to 30%.
