Chance to bag a bargain wedding dress as Sunderland bridal shop Amore hosts retirement sale

Amore has been helping people find the most-important dress of their life for the past 14 years, serving thousands of brides from Sunderland and beyond from its shop in Green Terrace.

It’s been a real labour of love for June Overton, however, she is having to retire early to care for her husband John, after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

With John’s worsening condition, and the current lease coming to an end, June had to make the difficult decision to close the business.

She needs to sell the stock before the end of November, when Amore will cease trading, and it means there’s a number of deals to be had.

June has 130 dresses to sell in total, ranging from a size 8-26 by designers such as Maggie Sottero, Mark Lesley, Morilee and more.

All current styles are priced at £600, with some reduced from nearly £2,000, with previous styles all priced £300.

All accessories are half price and shoes are £10. Those purchasing sale dresses can still liaise with the seamstress June uses for alterations.

June said: “It’s a sad decision to have to make and it feels like the end of an era. I thought long and hard about ways around it, but I couldn’t trust Amore to anyone else and John needs my care.

“I’ve spoken to all my current brides. That was the first thing I did, so they know they are looked after.”

The businesswoman added: “I’ve been here almost 14 years and expanded upstairs after outgrowing the original shop downstairs. It’s bigger than people think and I never thought I’d fill this space, but I soon did.

“Over the years, I must have served thousands of brides, from the start of their journey to the end when the dress is steamed before the big day. It’s a stressful time for them, but I try to take that stress away. This is always a busy street, but it’s a little oasis of calm up here.

“Many brides call in afterwards with their wedding albums and we sit and have a cup of tea and go through them. I’ve been invited to hen do’s and wedding parties over the years - it’s a very personal service.”
