Ashbrooke Sports Club reopens after gas leak forces cafe to close

A sports club has reopened after a gas leak forced the cafe to shut its doors.

Sunderland Cricket Club, in West Lawn, Ashbrooke, had to close its coffee shop yesterday, Monday, June 21.

The bar reopened last night and the cafe is trading today.

Emergency Northern Gas Networks roadworks are still in place in West Lawn.

Emma Duncan and Charlotte Lamb are back at work today in the cafe and bar respectively.

"We were closed due to gasworks at the front of the building,” said Emma.

“We did close during the day – we had to, to be on the safe side – but everything will reopen today as usual.”

Charlotte said there had been no choice but to close: “There was a gas leak in the street outside, coming into the building,” she said.
