9. Wannasee Festival, Herrington Country Park, July 16
A wave of tribute acts will be taking over a city park as part of a festival celebrating some of the biggest names in music. Tributes to The Beatles, AC/DC, Queen, KISS, ELO, Oasis, Pink, Robbie Williams, Adele, Kings of Leon, Blondie, Elvis and more will perform at the Wannasee Tribute Festival, which takes place at Herrington Country Park on Sunday, July 16, 2023. 10. N-Dubz, July 21, Herrington Country Park
As well as festival days at Herrington Country Park, Kubix is hosting an evening with N-Dubz plus Bad Boy Chiller Crew and Nathan Dawe on Friday, July 21, 2023. 11. AJ Bell World Triathlon Championship Series, Roker seafront, July 29-30
The 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series is heading to Sunderland. The action-packed event will see thousands of participants swim, bike and run in two days of races against the scenic backdrop of Roker Beach and seafront over the weekend of July 29 and 30.
A qualifying event for next summer’s Paris Olympics, it is a chance to see the world’s elite in action on the streets of Sunderland and will be broadcast live on the BBC and worldwide. Photo: submitted
12. Civil War Re-enactment, Hylton Castle, July 29-30
The English Civil War Society will gather for large displays at Hylton Castle on July 29-30. Highlights of the free event, which runs from 11am to 4.30pm, include a living history village, learn how to fire a musket and handle a pike and see the battle of Sunderland reenacted live. Photo: Stu Norton
