On the first day back in business – Monday, June 15 – shoppers queued up outside a number of stores, including Primark, Sports Direct and TK Maxx in Sunderland city centre – as non-essential retailers reopened after months of closure due to the coronavirus lockdown. After a bustling start back, there were quieter scenes in the city centre on Tuesday, June 16 as both staff and customers adjust to the new normal of a trip to the shops.
