The popular Night Run series is taking place the National Trust property on Saturday February 8, with two different routes to make it as accessible to as many people as possible. The Adventurer route is 7km and the Explorer route is 3km. Both are traffic-free, on paths and trails, and organisers say “if you’d rather walk than run, you’re more than welcome”.

Mimi Rousell from the active outdoors team at the National Trust said: “If you’re after an adventure with the family go on the Explorer route, which is good for little legs and new runners.

Seeing hundreds of runners light up the pathways with their torches also makes the experience extra special.“Whether you’re new to running, a seasoned trail runner or a family looking for an adventure you’ll find going on a Night Run fun and exciting. It’s a great way to meet new people and socialise with friends.”

Souter’s light will be lit especially for the occasion, and Newcastle based DJ Steve Keys will be compere for the evening, playing motivating music to warm up the crowd, counting down to the start and welcoming finishers back across the line.

Everyone taking part in the event will receive a newly designed wooden medal.

The National Trust is working with Cotswold Outdoor to offer its programme of Night Runs for the fifth year running.

Souter Lighthouse is one of several National Trust places taking part in the 2019/20 programme, which organisers say will build on the excitement of 2018/19, which saw more than 4500 people taking part across the country.

Steve Hulbert, Senior Partnerships Manager at Cotswold Outdoors, said: “Adventures come in all shapes and sizes, and Night Run is no exception.
