Sarah Naylor from Ryhope usually teaches Zumba at Fulwell Day Centre, as well as other classes at Everyone Active centres around Wearside.

Because of restrictions in place to limit the spread of Covid-19, she’s had to suspend her regular classes, as well as her PT sessions, so she decided to bring Zumba classes into people’s homes using the Zoom app.

People can book a class at www.sarahnaylorfitness.com for £2.50 and are then sent a password so that the whole household can participate.

Sarah said: “The changes we’ve all had to make have been a learning curve and at first I did the classes for free as I was learning as well.

“Everyone Active started sharing the link on their page and the classes became more popular. I charge £2.50 per household and it’s often the mums and kids who join in. But you see the dads dancing along in the background too. People can choose to be seen on the app, or not, it’s up to them.”

Gyms and fitness centres being closed has majorly affected people’s daily fitness routines and Sarah says it’s important for people to still make time for physical activity.

“Zumba is about dancing so it’s very fun and uplifting,” she explained. “It’s a chance for people to take time out for an hour and do some exercise.”

Zumba usually has strict licensing rules, but they’ve lifted restrictions on live streaming so people can participate in classes at home which is fantastic.”
