5. Penshaw Bowl, Herrington Country Park, April 9
This year’s Penshaw Bowl will take place from 12-4pm on Thursday 9th April 2020 at the Amphitheatre in Herrington Country Park.The traditional egg rolling contest is free. The contest will be open to all children aged 9 and under, please note that the contest will begin with the Age 3 and under category and work up through the ages. Come along with your pre-decorated hard-boiled egg clearly marked with your child's name and age. 6. Oasis album celebration, Independent, April 17
To mark the 25th anniversary of era-defining album (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, the Oasis record will be performed in its entirety in Sunderland. The most successful Oasis album released, (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, sold a record-breaking 347,000 copies in the first week on sale and spent 10 weeks at number 1 in the UK album chart. To celebrate the album, which would define the indie era, leading Oasis tribute band, Definitely Oasis, will be performing it in its entirety live, as well as all the best Oasis hits and B sides. 7. Sunderland City Runs, May 9 & 10
Sunderland City Runs 2020 tale place on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th May. The first Sunderland city 10km was held in 2011 with just over 1500 taking part. 10 years later the Sunderland City Runs will welcome 5000 participants to the city streets in a celebration of running across a range of distances. 8. Martin Kemp, Rainton Arena, May 15
Rainton Arena is offering a ‘gold’-en opportunity to see one of the biggest stars of the 1980s, when he heads to the region this year. Martin Kemp, part of supergroup Spandau Ballet, will be appearing at Rainton Arena in Houghton on May 15, 2020 – with the promise of a night packed with retro hits. The Back to the 80s Party sees the performer – who has also made his name as an actor in movies such as The Krays and TV series EastEnders - take to the turntables to play much-loved music from the era.
