Legally Blonde returns to Sunderland Empire next week – and you could be there for free.

We have a pair of tickets to give away for opening night of the show, which runs from Monday until April 21.

Based on the hit film starring Reese Witherspoon, the musical stars former EastEnders actress Rita Simons, Lucie Jones, who competed in last year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and Bill Ward, of Coronation Street and Emmerdale fame.

It tells the story of college sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods, who doesn’t take no for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School.

Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

Legally Blonde The Musical earned seven Tony nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations during its Broadway run.

In the UK it was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards winning three, including Best New Musical, and was nominated for eight Whatsonstage Awards winning four, including Best Musical.

Rita Simons, who plays Paulette Bonafonte, is best-known for playing Roxy Mitchell in BBC’s EastEnders for which she has won numerous awards.

She’s joined on stage by Lucie Jones as Elle Woods.

Lucie was a finalist in the 2009 series of the X Factor and has gone on to appear in a number of musicals including Ghost, We Will Rock You, Les Miserables and more.

Playing Professor Callahan is Bill Ward, who is best known for his work on two of the country’s leading soaps, playing James Barton in Emmerdale and builder Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street.

He was last at the Empire for pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk in December last year.
