SCORES of schoolchildren have discovered the magic of the stage thanks to a theatre project.
Pupils from Hylton Red House Primary School, Murton Primary School, Southwick Community Primary School and Academy 360 all had the chance to start a creative journey with No Limits Theatre, through participation in the Arts Award Discover project.
The project, funded by Arts Council England, Arts Award Access Fund and the Sir Tom Cowie Fund, gave each pupil the opportunity to take part in a range of arts activities including music and drama workshops, which led to them creating their own performance piece. At the end of the project, pupils got to attend a theatre performance by No Limits Theatre at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, involving a group of characters inspired by the collections at the museum.
Janet Nettleton, No Limits artistic director, said: “This project really is the most amazing experience. Early exposure to the arts can help spark creativity and imagination, and I passionately believe that Arts Award and the opportunities it brings should be available to all young people in the region.”
“It has been a great pleasure to share so many creative journeys through the project. The final theatre performances in the setting of the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens has been a fantastic opportunity and will further enhance young people’s cultural experience from the project.
“We are really looking forward to being able to involve even more young people in this project over the year.”
