THEATRE bosses in Durham are reassuring the public that their pantomime is still going ahead as planned.
The move by the Gala Theatre follows concerns from residents about the cancellation of another production, Peter Pan, which was due to be held in the Sands area of the city in December.
The Gala has confirmed that its production of Jack and the Beanstalk will still run from Thursday, December 1, to Thursday, January 7, as scheduled.
Robin Byers, programming and operations manager at the Gala, said: “We’d like to reassure everyone that preparations for our production of Jack and the Beanstalk are very much on track and we’re looking forward to entertaining audiences during its six-week run.”
Sheer Enchatment, the company planning to stage Peter Pan, last week ditched its plans due to “an unexpected change of circumstances with financial backers”.
But bosses at the Gala are promising their panto will be bigger and better than ever, with the show featuring the voice of actor Brian Blessed and a host of favourites from previous productions.
Tickets are already selling fast, with audiences promised some of the region’s best actors, sumptuous costumes and sets, dazzling dance routines.
