STAGE-STRUCK students are shaping up to tread the boards.

After over indulging during the Christmas holiday period, students from East Durham College are hitting the gym to prepare for their performances of the annual college pantomime.

This year the students are performing their version of the classic tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

The production is being organised by foundation degree students as part of their course at the Peterlee-based college and they are required to stage a whole production, ensuring that all elements of the show are at professional industry standard.

The students say they can’t wait to get started and show off their skills to the public.

Jennifer Hargrave, 18, from Seaham, who will play Snow White, said: “When I auditioned for the part I didn’t realise I’d be doing as much singing and dancing – so being in top shape is really important.

“The whole cast and team have been working really hard both to get fit and physically ready for the performance as well as making sure everyone knows their lines.

“Now we are totally prepared and just can’t wait to open to the public next week and show of our production.”

Leader of the Creative Industries Programme, Amanda Gregory, said: “The creative industries sector is incredibly competitive and requires complete dedication from anyone interested in pursuing a career in it.

“What we have seen from our students this year is an unprecedented level of commitment.”

The panto will be held on January 29, 30 and 31, at 7pm. Tickets are £7. To book, call 518 2000.
