A GRIPPING theatrical thriller is coming to South Tyneside tomorrow.

Shakespeare’s classic tale, Othello, will be brought to life by award-winning theatre company, Icarus Theatre Collective, at The Customs House in South Shields.

Following on from their success of Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, the popular theatre company is looking forward to presenting a bold new production of Shakespeare’s most tragic story.

Othello, Moor of Venice, is a legend in his own lifetime: noble, brave, victorious. Honest Iago fuels his venom with malignance and hateful contempt. Poignant, intense, heartbreaking; Othello mercilessly explores every inch of the human condition.

Icarus Theatre Collective’s talented cast of musicians and actors capture the passion of Shakespeare’s story as a live string quartet and stunning movement combine with some of literature’s most vibrant language and characters.

Artistic director Max Lewendel said: “The show combines contemporary and classic theatre. I visioned a modern Othello in a period setting.”

The production unfurls a dangerous tale of ambition, jealously and love as the classic tale draws to its dramatic conclusion.

The Customs House executive director, Ray Spencer, said: “Icarus Theatre Collective has a fantastic reputation so we’re really looking forward to their performance of Othello this week.”

Tickets for Othello are £12, £10 concession or £5 for schools and are available from The Customs House box office on Tel. 454 1234.
