I DEFY anyone’s toes not to tap to the Magic of Motown.
Dazzling dance moves abound as the hit-packed show is back on tour and boogying its way towards Sunderland Empire.
We’re promised the classics will keep on coming, with 36 hip-swivelling numbers including I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Stop! In the Name of Love and Blame it on the Boogie.
Hits by the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie and more feature in the hit concert show, which is sure to have the audience out of their seats and on their feet.
Coming from the United States to Wearside, the show returns with its I’ll Be There 2013 Tour to mark a highlight in Motown’s calendar – 50 years of hits from arguably the world’s most popular record label.
Rewind back to 1963, and Motown was regularly topping the charts in the States, with hot favourites including Heat Wave by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and Can I Get a Witness by Marvin Gaye.
To mark the occasion, The Magic of Motown – with a nod to music legend Stevie Wonder – is preparing to sign, seal and deliver its biggest production ever in its 10-year history, with the tour taking in 100 venues including Sunderland.
Show producer Michael Taylor said: “Sadly, many of the original Motown legends are either no longer with us or no longer touring.
“The Magic of Motown is the nearest you’ll get to authentically capturing their incredible musical legacy in a live show.
“Our young cast is able to reflect the exuberance and excitement of these songs as they were originally performed.”
Tickets, priced £23.50, are available from Sunderland Empire by calling 0844 8713022, or visit www.sunderlandempire.org.uk or www.easytheatres.com.
