SUNDERLAND’S oldest community theatre is on the lookout for someone to help its latest musical venture go with a swing.
In a new move for the Royalty Theatre, its actors are gearing up to host musical Thoroughly Modern Millie in a bid to reach out to a wider audience.
However, the musical director for the show has had to step down and the theatre urgently needs someone to replace him.
Chairman Anna Snell said: “We need someone that has keyboard skills and can teach songs and harmonies to the cast.
“They would be required to be at the theatre one day a week for seven to eight weeks before the production date. They would also be needed for the week of the production and the week before.
“We have a really talented team but everyone we have asked for the musical director’s role wants to be paid. We can only afford to provide about £200 for expenses.”
Auditions for roles in the musical take place at The Royalty at 7.30pm on Thursday, with rehearsals starting on April 25.
Thoroughly Modern Millie will run from June 27 to July 2.
